Matthew 7:21-23, NOT Every One Goes To Heaven
Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (KJV)
Jesus clearly states that in that day many would make their “profession” to Him, declaring Him to be their Lord, even stating what spiritual achievements they had accomplished, in an attempt prove their claim to salvation.
He shall instead, give them the verdict of Hell. WHY will He do this?? WHY the tragedy for so many?? He gives the answer in this Passage! They do NOT the will of God! They work iniquity meaning to perform against the law, saying they simply disregard His Holy commands. WHAT are a Christians commands?? Jesus makes that crystal clear!
Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (KJV)
Jesus quoted from Deut. 6:5 and Lev.19:18. IF we fulfill these TWO commands, we keep all the others. They summarize the Ten Commandments and the other Old Testament moral laws, all 613 of them. Jesus says that if we truly love God and our neighbor, we will naturally and automatically keep the commandments. Rather than worry about all we should not do, we should concentrate on what we should do to show our love for God and others.
These verses do NOT refer to believers today. EVERY true believer, living or dead, will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air (1 Thes.4:13-18). NONE will hear the Lord say, “depart from me.” This passage refers to the Great Tribulation Period and the Millennium.
There is a warning that is needed here for professing church members . . . in fact, for all believers. People talk passionately about certain so-called miracle workers today. They say: “You can tell God is with them.” Considering these verses, can we be sure of that? The Name of Christ (Christian) is on the lips of many people who are leaders of cults and “isms” . . . BUT, is Christ in their hearts??? Just to use the Name of Christ and flaunt the Bible is NOT proof that a preacher or so-called faith healer is genuine. It is NOT the outward profession of Christ . . . BUT the inward heart relationship to a crucified but living Saviour that is important. BEWARE of false teachers! Passages mentioned above.
Deut. 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. (KJV)
Lev. 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD. (KJV)
1 Thes.4:13-18 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words. (KJV)
