HIS SERVANTS' MINISTRY

Welcome to our Web Site!

1 John 5:4-5, Overcoming By Faith

1 John 5:4-5 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. [5] Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? (KJV)

Every child of God defeats this evil world by trusting Christ Jesus to give them victory. The ones who win this battle against the world are the ones who BELIEVE that Jesus is the Son of God. They “overcome” this world and the devil.

Whatsoever = are those who come to Jesus by faith.

Overcometh = conquer, overcome, prevail, get the victory.

The world = all that are opposed to keeping the commandments of God, those who draw us away from God, in this world, those who are corrupt flesh (unbelievers), also includes Satan, the prince of this world (John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11). This is the victory that overcometh “. . . that hath (already) overcome the world”: the victory is implied here as having been already obtained (1 John 2:13; 4:4).

Our faith = credence, confidence, moral certainty of religious Truth, and the truthfulness of God, reliance upon Christ for salvation, ideal perseverance in such profession, assurance, belief, believe, trust, allegiance, loyalty.

Who = Whosoever is those who BELIEVE that Jesus is the Son of God. 1 John 5:1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. (KJV)

Confirming, as an undeniable fact, that the victory which overcomes the world is faith in the Son of God (Christ Jesus). For it is by ONLY by believing, that we are made one with Jesus the Son of God, thus making it possible that we partake of His victory over the world, plus another treasured blessing . . . we have dwelling within us One who is greater than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). There is NO unbeliever (someone who is not a Christian), anywhere in this whole world, who can overcome the world, because they do NOT have faith in Jesus!

True love from the people of God is evident, far different from natural kindness of unbelievers, because it is united with the love of God, and obedience to His commands (Mat.22:36-40). The same Holy Spirit who teaches the love, also teaches us obedience. A TRUE child of God loves as God loves, and CANNOT commit sin or neglect known duty. God’s commands are holy, just, and good and in following them, they give us liberty and happiness. We do NOT consider them grievous, so those who are born of God and love Him, can serve Him more perfectly. Humility and self-denial is required, but TRUE Christians have a standard which carries us far above anything that may hinder us, because we know that He will never leave us, never forsake us, ever (Heb.13:5).

Everyone except TRUE believers in Christ, are enslaved in some way or another, to the customs, opinions, interests or temptations of this world. FAITH is the reason for our victory, FAITH is the method, the instrument, and the spiritual armor (Eph.6:16) by which we overcome. Only in and by FAITH can we cleave to Christ, and have contempt for, and be in opposition to the world. FAITH sanctifies the heart, and FAITH purifies it from those sensual lusts by which the world obtains sway and dominion over souls. FAITH has the indwelling Spirit of grace, which is greater than he who dwells in the world. The TRUE Christian overcomes the world by FAITH; and sees that in and by the life and conduct of the Lord Jesus on Earth, that this world must be renounced by us. We CANNOT be satisfied with this world, and we must look far beyond it; as we strive and press onward to Heaven. We ALL must, after Christ’s example, overcome the world, or it will overcome us to our ruin.

Wonderful Promises!
