??? Describing God ???

Can anyone really describe our awesome, indescribable God? He has so many grand characteristics, it is hard to start! What I will bring here will just be the tip of an enormous iceberg!

The Omnipotence of God
Why is God, God? What makes God, God?

There are several big-word terms which describe God. One of these is omnipotence. It comes from two words: Omni, which means “all;” and potent, which means “powerful.” When we speak of God’s power and strength and His creative majesty and wonder, we mean God’s omnipotence . . . in reality, omnipotence is the ability of God to do what ever God wants to do.

Sometimes people say that omnipotence means the power to do absolutely anything. That really is misleading, because God’s omnipotence totally depends upon His will, NOT His sheer, unadulterated power. Omnipotence is simply God’s ability to do that which He wants done, that which His will allows.

God's ability to do what He wants to do . . . is what makes God God. I praise God that He is a gracious God, full of love and mercy . . . BUT these wonderful and important characteristics of God’s nature does NOT make God God. God is God because God is God. There is NO other like Him!

“I AM that I AM”

To be or not to be is meaningless when one is speaking of God . . . God simply IS. God’s Name, “I AM,” is fundamentally descriptive of the fact that God is the One who cannot NOT be. God is because God IS. Period. And this essential characteristic of God’s being is so because God is omnipotent.

We are not omnipotent. We once were not here, and we will one day cease to be in this world. But God always has been and always will be. Omnipotence for God, is the result and manifestation of God’s foundational being.

Omnipotence is simply, the ability to do all things. The doctrine of divine omnipotence is the doctrine that God has this ability, and that there is NOTHING beyond His power. So, an omnipotent God is an all-powerful God, One who can do anything . . . IF He so chooses to do so, IF His will allows!

The Bible clearly affirms not only that God has such an ability but that He has it without any limits whatsoever! So, when we speak of God as being omnipotent, it means infinite in power. God is mighty in strength (Job 9:4). The LORD strong and mighty (Psalm 24:8). A mighty God and terrible (Deut.7:210. He is the mighty One of Israel (Isa. 1:24). He is strong in power (Isa.40:26).

Jeremiah 32:17-19 Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: [18] Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name, [19] Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings: (KJV)

God is Maker, Lord, Owner, Ruler, and King of ALL Creation, whom NO one can resist or overpower (Mat. 11:25; Rev. 1:8; Ps. 29:10; Jer. 10:7,10). He is "the Lord Almighty" (2 Cor. 6:18; Rev. 4:8; 11:17), "the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords" (1 Tim. 6:15). Nothing is too difficult for him; ALL things are within His power (Gen. 18:14; Zech. 8:6; Jer. 32:27).
When Mary asked Gabriel how she, a virgin, could conceive a child without the involvement of a man, his response was: Luke 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible. (KJV)

After comparing the difficulty of a rich man getting into Heaven with a camel passing through the eye of a needle, Jesus said: Mathew 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. (KJV)

Psalm 115:3 But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased. (KJV)
Psalm 135:6 Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places. (KJV)
Isaiah 14:27 For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back? (KJV)
Isaiah 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: (KJV)
Job 42:1-2 Then Job answered the LORD, and said, [2] I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee. (KJV)
Daniel 4:35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou? (KJV) Also see: 2 Chron. 20:6; Job 23:13; Prov. 21:30; Isa. 43:13.

God's Power Has NO Limit

God's divine power is optional in its exercise. Even though God IS infinitely powerful in His eternal being, He does NOT always and in every way exercise His power. God did NOT have to create anything. And after His masterpiece of Creation, He COULD have annihilated. Only when He has bound Himself by Promise, like faith in Christ, does His action stop being optional.

The actual exercise of God's power does NOT represent its limits. God CAN do all that He wills but He need NOT do all that He can . . . meaning that God's infinite power is revealed in the works of Creation, but is NOT exhausted by them. God could have created more than He did, IF He so desired. So, what God has done, is NO measure of what He could have done or what He can do.

God is omnipotent because He can do whatever He wills . . . BUT His will is determined by His nature. God is omnipotent, and yet He cannot die, He cannot lie, He cannot sin, He cannot deny Himself. How can He be omnipotent? He is omnipotent for the very reason that He cannot do these things. For IF He could die, He would NOT be omnipotent.

The power of God is NOT lessened because He cannot die, and cannot sin; for IF He could do these things, His power would be less. To be able to do all that one wills to do is to be omnipotent. God's not being able to sin is NOT inconsistent with His omnipotence; instead, it is required by His omnipotence."

Let us praise God Who can do all things!

A warning to the rebellious. Divine omnipotence is an ominous warning to all those who think they can in some way resist God's judgment. Every obstinate sinner should consider his/her foolishness in thinking he/she is able to wrestle with God's omnipotence! We are as mere worms in the Presence of this Almighty Being before Whom rocks melt, and the heavens shall be rolled up as a scroll by God's terrible judgment (Rev.6:14; 20:11)! Just as the light of God's Face is too brilliant for us to look upon, so too is the arm of His Almighty power too mighty to be opposed by us.

A comfort to the saved. God's omnipotence is a comfort to us when we are persecuted and oppressed (Ps. 27:1). It is a comfort and encouragement to us when we are tempted (1 Cor. 10:13). It is especially a comfort to us when we pray, for it reassures us that God is completely able to do what we ask (Eph. 3:20-21). God is able to DO or to work. He is NOT idle, NOT inactive, and certainly NOT dead. God is well able to do what we ask, for He hears and answers prayer. He is able to do what we ask of Him. He also knows what we think (Eze.11:5). God is well able to do ALL that we ask, for He knows all and can perform all, IF it is His will. He is able to do MORE . . . above and beyond all that we ask, for His expectations are higher than ours. He is able to do much more, more abundantly, than all that we ask, for His grace is NOT by calculated measure. God is well able to do very much more, far more abundantly, than all that we ask, for He is a God of superabundance, a well that never runs dry!

Scriptures about God's Omnipotence:

Mat.19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.(KJV)
Genesis 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. (KJV)

Jer. 32:17 Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: (KJV)
Jer. 32:27 Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me? (KJV)
Luke 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible. (KJV)
Rev.19:6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. (KJV)

God is Omniscient

Omniscience is an attribute (characteristic) of God by which God perfectly and eternally knows all things which can possibly be known: past, present, and future. Since God knows ALL things, He knows the best way to attain His desired ends.

Omniscience, like omnipresence, clearly reveals that man CANNOT hide from God because God knows ALL things. He knows the number of hairs on each head (Luke 12:7), He knows the heart and thoughts of every man. Just because no person is around to see us do wrong doesn't mean no one saw it happen. God saw it! The well-known tree falling in the forest that doesn't make a sound because no one was there to see or hear it fall . . . God sees it! God hears it!

Even our intentions in the things we do are known to God. We need to be sure that our attitudes match our actions because God knows when we are doing things for the wrong reasons or motives.

Scriptures about God's Omniscience:

Psalm 139:1-6 O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. [2] Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. [3] Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. [4] For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether. [5] Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. [6] Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. (KJV)
Psalm 147:4-5 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. [5] Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. (KJV)
Acts 15:18 Known to God are all his works from the beginning of the world. (KJV)
Psalm 33:13 The Lord looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. (KJV)
2 Kings 13:19 And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice. (KJV)
Jer. 38:17-20 Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon's princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house: [18] But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand. [19] And Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me. [20] But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Obey, I beseech thee, the voice of the LORD, which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live. (KJV)
Romans 4:17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickened the dead, and calleth those things which be not though as they were. (KJV)

Isaiah 42:9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them. (KJV)

Isaiah 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure. (KJV)
Mat.11:21-23 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. (KJV)
I Samuel 23:5-14 So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah. [6] And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand. [7] And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into mine hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars. [8] And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men. [9] And David knew that Saul secretly practised mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod. [10] Then said David, O LORD God of Israel, thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake. [11] Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O LORD God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the LORD said, He will come down. [12] Then said David, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? And the LORD said, They will deliver thee up. [13] Then David and his men, which were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he forbare to go forth. [14And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand. (KJV)
God knows everything that has happened and everything that ever will happen. He knows when we do things for the wrong reasons and when we do things for the right reasons. All things we do should be to serve Him and bring glory to Him. Since God knows everything we do and our reasons or motives we have for doing them, we must commit ourselves to doing everything as if we were doing it for God Himself. We must yield ourselves to Him daily, that we may do what He wants us to do and be what He wants us to be.

God is Omnipresent

Omnipresence is an attribute (characteristic) of God by which He fills the Universe in all its places and is present everywhere at once. When someone sins, God is there. If a child does something a parent told him not to do, God is there. There is NO place anyone can go to hide from God.

Scriptures about God's Omnipresence:

Psalm 139:7-16 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? [8] If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. [9] If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; [10] Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. [11] If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. [12] Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee. [13] For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. [14] I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. [15] My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. [16] Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. (KJV)
Jer. 23:23-24 Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off?
24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.
Eph. 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. (KJV)
Psalm 113:5 Who is like unto the Lord our God, who dwelleth on high. (KJV)
Psalm 123:1 Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens. (KJV)
I Kings 8:27 But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded? (KJV)
Mat. 6:9
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.(KJV)
Heb. 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (KJV)
I Cor. 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty. (KJV)

Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. (KJV)
Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (KJV)
There is NO place where you could go, where God is not already there.

God is Invisible

God CANNOT be seen by the human eye. But His eternal power and divine character are known and clearly seen by the things He has made. The fact that God cannot be seen does not mean He cannot be known, as some say. Some people just choose NOT to know God . . . denying Him by believing that the world evolved by random chance. All one needs to do is LOOK at the order of things being held in constant control by the Creator, who created ALL things. This awesome God who was and is powerful enough to create such a beautiful Universe, even though He cannot be seen directly.

Scriptures about the Invisible God:

Romans 1:19-20 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. [20] For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: (KJV)
Col.1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. (KJV)
I Tim.1:17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. (KJV)
Job 23:8-9 Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: [9] On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: (KJV)
Heb.11:27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. (KJV)
I John 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. (KJV)
Just because God cannot be seen directly does NOT mean He does not exist. The things God created and the order with which they were designed all point to an Almighty God with tremendous power and wisdom.

God is Eternal

Eternal is everlasting, never ending and refers to the endless past, the present and the unending future. It refers to God's knowledge and experience of ALL time. God had NO beginning. It is hard for us to understand no beginning and no end . . . but God has always been and always will be. Eternal shows us how much we can trust God. Since He created time as we know it, He lives outside of time and can see the beginning and the end of our lives and the age of men and the church. So when He tells us what things will happen and be a part of the end of the age, we can be assured that those events will happen exactly as He described. BUT . . . more than that, we can have peace, knowing that when we die we will be with Him forever. One day will be as a thousand years (2 Pet.3:8).

Scriptures about our eternal God:

Psalm 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. (KJV)
Gen.21:33 And Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the Lord, the everlasting God. (KJV)
Isa.57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. (KJV)
Deut.33:27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them. (KJV)
I Tim.1:17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. (KJV)

God has always existed and He always will. NOTHING can resist Him and NOTHING will ever be able to bring an end to Him.

God is Holy

Holy is the pure, loving nature of God, apart from any evil. Holy is a characteristic of humans who have entered into a close, personal relationship with God. For us to be holy means to be separate from evil and wickedness. Holy is the exact opposite of evil, sin and wickedness. We must separate ourselves from evil, not associate with evil, not be found in a situation where anyone could get the idea of us being evil. This does NOT mean not to associate with anyone that is not Christian, for even Jesus spent time with the social and religious outcasts of His day. But, we must never become close friends with unbelievers for I have found that evil people will not pick up the good traits of their Christian friends . . . but instead, the Christian will pick up the bad traits of the unbeliever. BEWARE! When we associate with those people our behavior needs to reveal that we are different from the people or the evil things surrounding us.

Scriptures about God's Holiness:
Psalm 98:1 O sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvelous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory. (KJV)
Psalm 145:17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. (KJV)
I Samuel 2:2 There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. (KJV)
Isaiah 6:3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. (KJV)
John 17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. (KJV)
Rev. 4:8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. (KJV)
I Peter 1:14-16 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: [15] But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; [16] Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. (KJV)
I John 1:5-7 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. [6] If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: [7] But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. (KJV)

God's holiness is directly related to His righteousness and His purity.

God is Love

Love is the very nature of God, and the greatest of all Christian virtues. Attributes of love include patience, kindness, trust, hope, mercy and perseverance. Love is never envious, boastful, proud, rude or self-seeking, not easily angered and never keeps a record of wrongs and never takes delight in evil. Love needs to be top-most in our lives if we are to be called Christians. For how else can love be the greatest of Christian virtues if non-Christians cannot see love being revealed in our lives.

Scriptures about God's Love:

I John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. (KJV)
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (KJV)
John 15:9-14 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. [10] If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. [11] These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. [12] This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. [13] Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. [14] Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. (KJV)
Matthew 22:36-40 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? [37] Jesus said unto him,Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. [38] This is the first and great commandment. [39] And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. [40] On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (KJV)
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (KJV)
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? [36] As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. [37] Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. [38] For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, [39] Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (KJV)
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, [5] Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; [6] Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; [7] Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. (KJV)
I Corinthians 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. (KJV)
I John 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. (KJV)
I John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. (KJV)

God loves us more than we can ever possibly know. BUT, His love for us should fill us . . . to the brim, let's say. . . . so much that that love overflows from us to others, so they can know and experience God's love too. God sent His Son to die for us, but He did it for the whole world! We must allow God's love to fill our lives so that we can love our fellow Christians as well as non-Christians . . . in an effort to bring them into a relationship where they can have and experience the greatest love of all . . . God's love.

God is Truth

Truth is the consistency of statements. Truth suggests adhering to virtue, honesty. Truth is derived from the character of God, and is the exact opposite of lying. God cannot lie (Tit.1:2). God is the Source of Truth, and He communicates truth for the salvation of men. Truth is distinguished from falsehood; that which is real and genuine opposed to that which is counterfeit and unreal. The Lord Jesus Christ was the "Truth" incarnate. He was the real thing when He stated that He was God. Because Jesus Christ is the "Truth" we find many blessings in Him. Truth is opposed to ALL false religions. The Truth is that the Mosaic law, which was only the shadow, not the truth or substance, of the good things which were to come. Truth is in respect to all the promises of God (2 Cor.1:20).

Since it is impossible for God to lie, we know that EVERYTHING that He says about what will happen shall actually take place. If we are to become perfect we need to be known as people who tell the truth, like God. That means when we promise something we need to keep that promise OR do NOT make it in the first place.

Scriptures about Truth:

Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he. (KJV)
John 17:2-3 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. [3] And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. (KJV)
Psalm 19:9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. (KJV)
Psalm 33:4 For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth. (KJV)
Psalm 57:10 For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds. (KJV)
John 8:31-32 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him,
If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; [32] And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (KJV)
John 17:17
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.(KJV)
John 18:37-38 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. [38] Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. (KJV)
2 Thessalonians 2:10-13 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. [1] And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: [12] That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. [13] But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: (KJV)
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him,
I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (KJV)
Whatever God says He will do, He will do. So, when He says those who believe in Jesus shall have eternal life, you can rest assured that shall take place. The Truth is, just as certain is His providing a way out of temptation (1 Cor.10:13), protection from the fiery darts of the enemy (Eph.6:16), and Satan's eventual demise by being thrown into the Lake of Fire forever (Rev.20:10).

God is Immutable

Immutable is first of all unchangeable, but personally I think it is much more: absolute; unchallengeable; unassailable; inalienable; indisputable; undeniable; beyond doubt, etc. God's immutability is the absolute perfection of God by which He is NOT able to change in essence, attributes, consciousness, will, and Promises. NO change is possible in God, because all change must be to make better, and God is absolutely perfect! There is absolutely NO reason or cause for ANY change in God. Perfection means absolutely perfect in every way! There is NO reason for God to change because there is NO change whatsoever that would make Him better. Now, on the other hand, mankind should be striving to be found complete and perfect in God's eyes.

Scriptures about God's Immutability:

2 Samuel 22:31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. (KJV)
Job 37:16 Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge? (KJV)
Psalm 18:30 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him. (KJV)
Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. (KJV)
Psalm 102:27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end. (KJV)
James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. (KJV
James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. (KJV)
Hebrews 6:17-18 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: [18] That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: (KJV)
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. (KJV)
Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. (KJV)
There is NO reason for God to change in any way. He is perfect!

God's Greatness

God's greatness is exceeded by NONE! Only God is to be worshipped, for He created ALL things in His infinite power with His infinite wisdom.

Scriptures Supporting God's Greatness:

2 Samuel 7:22 Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. (KJV)
1 Chronicles 16:25 For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods. (KJV)
1 Chronicles 29:11 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. (KJV)
Psalm 95:3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. (KJV)
Psalm 135:5-6 For I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods. [6] Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places. (KJV)
Psalm 145:3 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. (KJV)
Psalm 147:5 Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. (KJV)
Psalm 150:2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. (KJV)
Isaiah 40:12-13 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance? [13] Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him? (KJV)
Jeremiah 23:24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord. (KJV)

There is no way to fully understand the majestic greatness of our awesome Triune God. Infinity is the term man uses to describe something that cannot be counted or measured and God is surely infinite and immeasurable.

God is Life

God has absolute life in Himself and He is the Source of all life. Jesus is the life, the Author and Giver of eternal life, (John 11:25; 1 John 5:11). Jesus is the Purchaser of life (for us) by His death. Jesus by His doctrine showed the Way to life (Him, Jesus), and His Holy Spirit begins it within us (Rom.8:9; 1 Cor.12:13), and carries it on to perfection. The Jews thought the way to eternal life was by the law of Moses; but our Saviour taught His disciples differently . . . for if the law could have given life, Christ died in vain, as the apostle argues (1 Cor.15:12-19). Therefore Jesus said there is NO coming to the Father but by me (John 14:6); NO way for you or any other, to come to Heaven, but by receiving, and embracing, and believing in Jesus. The Life Christ offers is the blessing and bounty of our existence.

Man was created to be able to commune with God and interact with Him. When man fell as a result of sin this relationship was marred. Only through a proper understanding of man's relationship to God, and belief that Jesus died for the sins of the world (John 1:29; 3:16; 4:42; 12:47; 1 Tim.1:15; 1 John 2:2) to give man back the life God intended, can we once again have this right relationship with The Giver of Life . . . God.

Scriptures about Eternal Life:

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.(KJV)
John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. (KJV)
John 5:40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. (KJV)
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (KJV)
John 11:25 Jesus said unto her,
I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:(KJV)
John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. (KJV)
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (KJV)
1 John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. (KJV)
1 John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. (KJV)
Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. (KJV)

God is ALIVE. And our Creator God is the only One Who can give us eternal life in Heaven with Him.

God is Spirit

God is Spirit; a non-material personal Being, self-conscious and self-determining. God is someone we can get to know. Just because He cannot be seen by the human eye does NOT mean He is not there, and that we can ignore Him. That is a mistake! We may not be able to SEE Him personally . . . BUT His Creation clearly reveals His existence. Since He cannot be seen, but we know that He IS, we should consider everything that has been written about Him. This is how we can get to know Him like He wants us to know Him and begin to live our lives the way He wants us to live.

Scriptures about God being Spirit:

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (KJV)
John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. (KJV)
Romans 1:19-20 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. [20] For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: (KJV)
Colossians 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: (KJV)
I Timothy 6:16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen. (KJV)
Luke 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. (KJV)
I Timothy 1:17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. (KJV)
1 Kings 8:27 But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded? (KJV)
Acts 7:48 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, (KJV)
Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; (KJV)
2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. (KJV)

God has NO image. He CANNOT be seen by the human eye, but Creation points to His existence. We need to study the Scriptures to find out more about God, both WHO He is and how He wants us to live. And when we look at all the beauty He has created, let us be ever thankful.

Song of Songs 5:16 His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem. (KJV)

Hebrews 11:1-2 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. [2] For by it the elders obtained a good report. (KJV)

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, [23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (KJV) . . . All these wonderful characteristics are found in Christ, our God.

Love. . . is an intense desire to please God, and to do good to our fellow man. Love is the very soul and spirit of true religion. Love fulfills the Law (Mat.22:36-40) and empowers our faith.

Joy . . . is what we feel when we know God's mercy has been applied to our soul in the pardon of its iniquities. Joy is the hope of the eternal glory (Tit.1:2) of which it has the foretaste in the pardon of sin (Rom.5:2).

Peace . . . is the calm, quiet, and order, which takes place in the justified soul, instead of the doubts, fears, and dreadful forebodings. It is the assurance of pardon bringing serenity and satisfaction to the mind Rom.5:1).

Long-suffering . . . is patience bearing with the frailties, faults and provocations of others. Patience should be taken into consideration, in that God has borne long with ours; and that, if He had not, we would have been quickly consumed. We should stand firm in all the troubles and difficulties of life without murmuring; submitting to every dispensation of God's providence, because we derive benefits from every occurrence.

Gentleness . . . is being mild, calm, kind, tender, peaceful, pleasant, soft-hearted, etc. Gentleness is a very rare grace, often lacking in many who have a considerable share of other Christian characteristics.

Goodness . . . is the perpetual desire and sincerity, not only to abstain from every appearance of evil, but to do good to mankind and souls of men. Goodness comes from a good heart, a heart purified by the Holy Spirit. If the is good, the fruit will be good also.

Faith . . . is first of all, believing God (1 John 5:10-13). Faith is trusting God with your all. Faith is confidence that God will fulfill all that He promises. Faith is confidence, assurance and reliance on our awesome Triune God. Faith is also loyalty, fidelity.

Meekness . . . is being humble, mild mannered, calm, gentle, loving, able to control tempers and anger. Meekness is power under control. Meekness wants no revenge.

Temperance . . . is self-control, restraint, self-governing, moderation mainly with regard to sensual or animal appetites. Moderation in eating, drinking, sleeping, etc.

All these are characteristics of Jesus. Against such there is no law! If you have allowed the Holy Spirit to produce these "fruits" in your life, you cannot be condemned by any law, for the whole purpose and design of the moral law of God is fulfilled in those who have the Spirit of God, producing in their hearts and lives these wonderful fruits.

I have not even scratched the surface on describing God! He simply is far too wonderful, too majestic, too awesome to describe. NO one can completely know all there is about God. NO one understand the depths of His ultimate Being! If I lived to be 100, and studied constantly, I would still be at a loss for words about God being God. I do know that I love and greatly appreciate everything that I do know about Him, even though I do not completely understand it all.

I am NOT a scholar, far from it. I am very uneducated in the world's eyes. I simply love the Lord and when I was saved, He gave this humble servant the gift of teaching His Word. I did not choose this gift. Teaching the Holy Word of God terrifies me at times. I am so afraid of teaching something wrong. James 3:1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. (KJV) I understand perfectly that teachers will be judged more severely. This is reason for concern. So . . . WHY do I continue to teach? Because I am more afraid of disobeying God.

Our tiny ministry has reached out to thousands of inmates all over Texas since we started in 1996. We reach out to lost souls to try to bring them to Jesus, and we help those who have been saved to grow in Christ. What a blessing God is to us! I love Him and His people!
