ARMAGEDDON
ARMAGEDDON occurs only in Rev. 16:16 as symbolically
designating the place where the "battle of that great day of
God Almighty" (Rev. 16:14) shall be fought. The word means
the "mount of Megiddo." It is the scene of the final conflict
between Christ and Antichrist.
TO HAR-MAGEDON Between the sixth and seventh bowls
of wrath is an interlude. There is an interlude, a pause, between
the sixth and seventh features of each series of calamities. It
is simply a break for the filling in of details, or giving more
information. Rev. 16:13–14 And I saw three unclean spirits
like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth
of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. [14] For
they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth
unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them
to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. [15] Behold, I
come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments,
lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. [16] And he gathered
them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

This is not to be a single battle but a war, the war of Armageddon. I think it will be triggered by the coming down of Russia from
the north sometime around the middle of the Tribulation Period.
The campaign will extend the length of Palestine to the Valley of
Jehoshaphat and the mountains of Edom. It will continue for approximately
three and one half years. It will be concluded by the coming of
the Lord Jesus Christ from Heaven to establish His kingdom. The
Sun of Righteousness will arise with healing in His wings. Here
we are introduced to the trinity of hell: Satan, Antichrist, and
the False Prophet. They act in together in unison, forcing the nations
of the world to march against Israel in an attempt to destroy God’s
purposes on earth. God gave certain promises to Abraham and to those
who would come after him. He made certain covenants with the Hebrew
people, and those covenants are going to stand, just like John 3:16
stands for believers today. Satan cannot and will not be victorious!
Don’t think that God is through with the nation Israel. Don’t think
that all of God’s covenants with Israel are canceled or void. They
are not! Don’t think that God has no intentions of making good any
of His promises to Israel. He will make them all good! Count on
it, even though there are literally hundreds of them in the Old
Testament. 1 Don’t liberalize the Scriptures. The Bible is a literal
book. It is the purpose of Satan to destroy God’s covenants with
Israel, and that is the reason Satan moves in and brings the whole
world against this little nation. This will happen during the Great
Tribulation. Look at the tremendous scene before us. "As
it were frogs." Will they be literal frogs? I want to think
of them as a symbol. We are supposed to take the Book of Revelation
literally, unless it is clearly a symbol. Yes, that’s right, but
see John’s words: "as it were frogs." He does NOT
say they were frogs. John is always very careful to give us an accurate
picture of what he sees. J. A. Seiss, in his book, The Apocalypse,
Lectures on the Book of Revelation, comments on the frogs in
a vivid manner: "They are spirits; they are "unclean spirits;"
they are "demon spirits;" they are sent forth into activity
by the Dragon Trinity; they are the elect agents to awaken the world
to the attempt to abolish God from the earth; and they are frog-like
in that they come forth out of the pestiferous quagmires of the
universe, do their work amid the world’s evening shadows, and creep,
and croak, and fill the ears of the nations with their noisy demonstrations,
till they set all the kings and armies of the whole earth in enthusiastic
commotion for the final crushing out of the Lamb and all His powers.
As in chapter 9, the seven Spirits of God and of Christ went forth
into all the earth to make up and gather together into one holy
fellowship the great congregation of the sanctified: so these spirits
of Hell go forth upon the kings and potentates of the world, to
make up and gather together the grand army of the devil’s worshippers."
In our own day we have seen how the news media can become a distortion
agent to carry out the purposes of men who are in the background.
The news media can actually brainwash the people. This is exactly
what the evil trinity will do. They will brainwash the nations of
the world into marching against Israel. ALL the nations of the world
will gather against tiny Israel (Zec.12:2-3, 9). The Lord Jesus
is the ONLY One who can stop this slaughter. Israel’s
help does not come from the north or the south or the east or the
west. That’s where their trouble is coming from (all directions).
Their help comes ONLY from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth.
Rev. 16:15 Behold, I come as
a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments,
lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. [KJV]
Christ will never come as a thief to the church. 1 Thes. 5:4
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should
overtake you as a thief. [KJV] A thief is someone you shut out;
you surely don’t welcome him. You lock him out. Christ does not
come as a thief to His church which is looking for Him. Titus
2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing
of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; [KJV] BUT, the
Lord Jesus DOES come as a thief to the world at the
end of the Great Tribulation, just as the verse indicates. The whole
Earth will mourn because of Him. They don’t want Him to come.
They would like to shut Him out, from ever returning, but they can’t!
Rev. 16:16 And he gathered them together into a place
called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. [KJV] This is the only
place the word Armageddon appears is Scripture, although there are many references to it. It means "Mount of Megiddo". Armageddon is a compound word made up of the Hebrew words Har, meaning mountain, and Megiddo, which ia a mount in th plain of Esdraelon, which is an extremely fertile valley. "He gathered them together." The "He"
is probably God Himself. Although Satan, Antichrist, and the False
Prophet act in unison to force the nations of the world to march
against Israel, they will be fulfilling the Word of God. God allows
it all to happen.
FINAL
BATTLE
Rev. 19:17-21 And I saw
an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying
to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather
yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; [18] That
ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the
flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit
on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small
and great. [19] And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth,
and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that
sat on the horse, and against his army. [20] And the beast was taken,
and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him,
with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast,
and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into
a lake of fire burning with brimstone. [21] And the remnant were
slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword
proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their
flesh. (KJV) This is one Passage of Scripture which is sickening
to read, but God included it to remind us how disgusting and nauseating
to Him are the deeds of the flesh. Men who live in the flesh will
have their flesh destroyed. This is the end of the Battle of Armageddon.
This is an invitation to the meat-eating birds. They are summoned
to a banquet on Earth where they will have A-1 flesh to eat, the
kings and the mighty men of the Earth. It is fearful to rebel against
God, because He is going to judge you someday. This horrific scene
reveals the heart of man and how dreadful that heart really is.
HELL
OPENED
For the very first time
Hell is opened up. Up to now, no one was in Hell. All unbelievers
are kept in Hades (the present day Hell). Hell is real and it is
there, for God has prepared it for the devil and his angels and
all who follow him (Mat.25:41). It just won’t be open for business
until this event in history. And the beast was taken, and with him
the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he
deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them
that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake
of fire burning with brimstone. And the rest were slain with the
sword of him that sat upon the horse, What an awful picture. The
Beast and the False Prophet defy God right up to the very last.
They DARE to make war with the Son of God! Surely "He
that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh" (Ps.2:4; 37:13)
at the utter hopelessness of their efforts. It is absurd that there
will be such a rebellion of man against God. The outcome is inevitable.
So, is the "lake of fire" literal? Think about
this. IF Hell is NOT literal, it means that it is worse than
a literal fire of brimstone. "The sword which came forth
out of his mouth." Some ask laughingly, "You don’t
believe that there is going to be a literal sword coming out of
the mouth of Jesus, do you?" The Word of God has made it clear
that His Word is LIKE a sword.
Hebrews 4:12 For
the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged
sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit,
and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts
and intents of the heart. [KJV] Ephes. 6:17 And take the
helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word
of God: [KJV]
Isaiah 11:4 But
with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity
for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the
rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay
the wicked. [KJV] The Bible makes quite clear the symbol
of the "sword." The "sword" that
comes from the mouth of Jesus is His Word. It was His Word that
created this universe (immense power). It is the Word of God which
will save you. And it will be the Word of God that will destroy
the wicked at the end of this age.

Comments
Many think Armageddon
will be just one day. I simply cannot see it that way. The more
I study God’s Word, the more it seems to me that it is NOT a one
day battle, but a long-range war! The final battle, yes, probably
one day. It will be F-A-S-T! It will not take Jesus long to put
an end to Israel’s enemies. All Jesus will need to do is speak!
It will be over! Satan and all his followers will know the wrath
of God, up close. The 200 million soldiers in the 9th chapter of
Revelation, in my estimation will be involved in this horrible war.
I, in NO way, claim to know it all. I simply write and teach what
the Lord has put on my heart. I back up what I write by Scriptures
whenever possible. But, in some cases, it all boils down to common
sense. To me, Armageddon is a war, not a brief battle. Christians
differ, as to their views of the times and duration of events yet
to be brought to pass, for no one except Almighty God knows for
certain every detail. But on one point all are agreed, Christ Jesus,
the Lord of glory, will suddenly come again to judge the sinful
world, and He will be absolutely 100% victorious! Count on it. To
those walking with Christ, it is an matter of joyful hope and expectation.
I know there may be times I am wrong about details. But it is the
end result we must be concerned with, eternal life in Heaven with
our glorious Lord. I am NOT wrong about that!
