ISRAEL,
and the PROMISED LAND
The
route of the spies.
Numbers 13:17-24 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and
said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into
the mountain: [18] And see the land, what it is; and the people
that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few
or many; [19] And what the land is that they dwell in, whether
it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell
in, whether in tents, or in strong holds; [20] And what the
land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood
therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the
fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe
grapes.
[21] So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness
of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath. [22] And they ascended
by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai,
and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built
seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) [23] And they came unto
the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with
one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a
staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.
[24] The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the
cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from
thence. [KJV]
It
is very fruitful.
Numbers 13:27 And they told him, and said, We came unto the
land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk
and honey; and this is the fruit of it. [KJV]
Joshua
chapters 13 through 19. How it was divided among tribes.
Joshua
19:49 When they had made an end of dividing the
land for inheritance by their coasts, the children of Israel
gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun among them:
[KJV]
Why
it was divided into territories.
Judges
1:21 And the children of Benjamin did not drive
out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites
dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this
day. [KJV] Israelites failed
to drive enemies from the land.
Judges
3:1-4 Now these are the nations which the Lord
left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had
not known all the wars of Canaan; [2] Only that the generations
of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at
the least such as before knew nothing thereof; [3] Namely,
five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and
the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt in mount Lebanon,
from mount Baal-hermon unto the entering in of Hamath. [4]
And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they
would hearken unto the commandments of the Lord, which he
commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses. [KJV] Many
obstacles remained in conquering it.
Judges
3:12-13 And the children of Israel did evil again
in the sight of the Lord: and the Lord strengthened Eglon
the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil
in the sight of the Lord. [13] And he gathered unto him the
children of Ammon and Amalek, and went and smote Israel, and
possessed the city of palm trees. [KJV] First
attacks from outside nations.
The
Promised Land Borders
Numbers
34:1-12 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
[2] Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, When
ye come into the land of Canaan; (this is the land that shall
fall unto you for an inheritance, even the land of Canaan
with the coasts thereof:) [3] Then your south quarter shall
be from the wilderness of Zin along by the coast of Edom,
and your south border shall be the outmost coast of the salt
sea eastward: [4] And your border shall turn from the south
to the ascent of Akrabbim, and pass on to Zin: and the going
forth thereof shall be from the south to Kadesh-barnea, and
shall go on to Hazar-addar, and pass on to Azmon: [5] And
the border shall fetch a compass from Azmon unto the river
of Egypt, and the goings out of it shall be at the sea. [6]
And as for the western border, ye shall even have the great
sea for a border: this shall be your west border. [7] And
this shall be your north border: from the great sea ye shall
point out for you mount Hor: [8] From mount Hor ye shall point
out your border unto the entrance of Hamath; and the goings
forth of the border shall be to Zedad: [9] And the border
shall go on to Ziphron, and the goings out of it shall be
at Hazar-enan: this shall be your north border. [10] And ye
shall point out your east border from Hazar-enan to Shepham:
[11] And the coast shall go down from Shepham to Riblah, on
the east side of Ain; and the border shall descend, and shall
reach unto the side of the sea of Chinnereth eastward: [12]
And the border shall go down to Jordan, and the goings out
of it shall be at the salt sea: this shall be your land with
the coasts thereof round about. [KJV] The
Borders of the Promised Land.
Joshua
13:1-7 Now Joshua was old and stricken in years;
and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years,
and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed. [2]
This is the land that yet remaineth: all the borders of the
Philistines, and all Geshuri, [3] From Sihor, which is before
Egypt, even unto the borders of Ekron northward, which is
counted to the Canaanite: five lords of the Philistines; the
Gazathites, and the Ashdothites, the Eshkalonites, the Gittites,
and the Ekronites; also the Avites: [4] From the south, all
the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that is beside the
Sidonians, unto Aphek, to the borders of the Amorites: [5]
And the land of the Giblites, and all Lebanon, toward the
sunrising, from Baal-gad under mount Hermon unto the entering
into Hamath. [6] All the inhabitants of the hill country from
Lebanon unto Misrephoth-maim, and all the Sidonians, them
will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only
divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance,
as I have commanded thee. [7] Now therefore divide this land
for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half tribe
of Manasseh, [KJV] The
Land Yet to be Conquered.
TAKE THE LAND
God told Joshua to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land
(Canaan) and conquer it. This was not an act of imperialism
or aggression on Israel’s part, but an act of judgment
on God’s part. Following are some of Passages in the
Bible where God promised to give this land to the Israelites
and the reasons for doing so.
Genesis
12:1-3 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get
thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy
father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: [2] And
I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee,
and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: [3]
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that
curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth
be blessed. [KJV] God promised
to bless Abraham and make his descendants into a great nation.
Genesis
15:16 But in the fourth generation they shall
come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not
yet full. [KJV] God would
choose the right time for Israel to enter Canaan because the
nations living there then would be wicked and ripe for judgment
(their sin would reach full measure).
Genesis
17:7-8 And I will establish my covenant between
me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for
an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy
seed after thee. [8] And I will give unto thee, and to thy
seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all
the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will
be their God. [KJV] God
promised to give all the land of Canaan to Abraham’s
descendants.
Exodus
33:1-3 And the Lord said unto Moses, Depart,
and go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast brought
up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I sware unto
Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will
I give it: [2] And I will send an angel before thee; and I
will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite,
and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite: [3] Unto
a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in
the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest
I consume thee in the way. [KJV] God
promised to help the Israelites drive out all the evil nations
from Canaan.
Deut.
4:5-8 Behold, I have taught you statutes and
judgments, even as the Lord my God commanded me, that ye should
do so in the land whither ye go to possess it. [6] Keep therefore
and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding
in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes,
and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding
people. [7] For what nation is there so great, who hath God
so nigh unto them, as the Lord our God is in all things that
we call upon him for? [8] And what nation is there so great,
that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this
law, which I set before you this day? [KJV] The
Israelites were to be an example of right living to the whole
world; this would not work if they intermingled with the wicked
Canaanites.
Deut.
7:1-5 When the Lord thy God shall bring thee
into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast
out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites,
and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites,
and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater
and mightier than thou; [2] And when the Lord thy God shall
deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly
destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew
mercy unto them: [3] Neither shalt thou make marriages with
them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his
daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. [4] For they will turn
away thy son from following me, that they may serve other
gods: so will the anger of the Lord be kindled against you,
and destroy thee suddenly. [5] But thus shall ye deal with
them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their
images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images
with fire. [KJV] The Israelites
were to utterly wipe the Canaanites out because of their wickedness
and because of Israel’s call to purity.
Deut.
12:2 Ye shall utterly destroy all the places,
wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods,
upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every
green tree: [KJV] The
Israelites were to completely destroy all the Canaanite altars
so nothing would tempt them away from worshiping God alone.
Why
is it that everyone (including president Bush), is striving
SO hard to give Israel's land away??? That land belongs to
Israel!
I
think the answer to this lies in the following verses.
Zech.
12:2-3 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of
trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall
be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.
[3] And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone
for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be
cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered
together against it. [KJV]
This
prophecy is being fulfilled in our day. Israel certainly is
a cup of trembling to all the people around her,
actually the whole world.
Do
you see what verse 3 states? ALL the people of the Earth shall
one day gather together against Israel! My friend, this includes
ALL nations, everywhere! This is rapidly becoming a fact!
More and more people are turning against Israel. But, they
all shall be doomed! They do NOT have a chance! God is with
Israel, and He shall be victorious!
Zech.
12:8-11 In that day shall the Lord defend the
inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them
at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall
be as God, as the angel of the Lord before them. [9] And it
shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy
all the nations that come against Jerusalem. [10] And I will
pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of
Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they
shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall
mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall
be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for
his firstborn. [11] In that day shall there be a great mourning
in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley
of Megiddon. [KJV]
Verse
9 clearly states that God shall destroy ALL the nations who
come up against Israel . . . . including the USA! Even though
ALL nations go against Israel, they hall fail miserably! Israel
shall win this horrible battle, because Almighty God shall
be in complete control and demolish her enemies. Little Israel
shall win!
Verse
10 states that Israel shall finally see and accept Jesus as
their Messiah. There shall be great mourning on that day!
The crucified Messiah will clearly be revealed!
Philip.
2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should
bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things
under the earth; [KJV]
Rev.
5:13 And every creature which is in heaven,
and the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the
sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and
honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon
the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. [KJV]
Our
precious Lord Jesus (the Messiah), the Crucified One, shall
one day receive honor and respect and worship from ALL peoples,
including Israel!
Land
Promised to Abraham
Genesis
12:7 And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said,
Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he
an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him. [KJV]
Genesis
13:14-17 And the Lord
said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift
up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art
northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: [15]
For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it,
and to thy seed for ever. [16] And I will make thy seed as
the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust
of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. [17] Arise,
walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth
of it; for I will give it unto thee. [KJV] Verse
15 clearly states FOR EVER! The land belongs to ISRAEL! No
one else! Who is Abraham's
seed? See the next verses.
Genesis
17:20-21 And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee:
Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and
will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget,
and I will make him a great nation. [21] But my covenant will
I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at
this set time in the next year. [KJV] Ishmael
was Abraham's child "after the flesh" but
Isaac was Abraham's child of God's Promise!
Galatians
4:22-23 For it is written, that Abraham had two
sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. [23]
But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh;
but he of the freewoman was by promise. [KJV] Ishmael
was NOT the child of Promise.
Romans
9:7-9 Neither, because they are the seed of
Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed
be called. [8] That is, They which are the children of the
flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children
of the promise are counted for the seed. [9] For this is the
word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sarah shall
have a son. [KJV] Isaac
was the child of Promise!
Genesis
22:12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the
lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that
thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine
only son from me. [KJV] Who
was the son? It was NOT Ishmael. It was Isaac.
Genesis
22:2-A And he said, Take now thy son, thine only
son Isaac, . . . [KJV] Abraham's
seed is Isaac according to God. Isaac is the chils of Promise!
Genesis
22:16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith
the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast
not withheld thy son, thine only son: [KJV] Isaac!
Genesis
15:7 And he said unto him, I am the Lord that
brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this
land to inherit it. [KJV] Israel's
Land!
Genesis
15:18-21 In the same day the Lord made a covenant
with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land,
from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
[19] The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,
[20] And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,
[21] And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites,
and the Jebusites. [KJV] God
repeated His Promise!
Genesis
17:8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed
after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the
land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will
be their God. [KJV] An
everlasting possession! Not just a temporary lease!
Exodus
6:8 And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning
the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and
to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the
Lord. [KJV] Israel's heritage.
Leviticus
20:24 But I have said unto you, Ye shall inherit
their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land
that floweth with milk and honey: I am the Lord your God,
which have separated you from other people. [KJV]
Deut.
6:10 And it shall be, when the Lord thy God shall
have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers,
to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and
goodly cities, which thou buildedst not, [KJV]
Deut.
31:20 For when I shall have brought them into
the land which I sware unto their fathers, that floweth with
milk and honey; and they shall have eaten and filled themselves,
and waxen fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve
them, and provoke me, and break my covenant. [KJV] Israel
to this day continues to "provoke" God.
Judges
2:1 And an angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal
to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and
have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers;
and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.
[KJV] I personally believe that the angel of the Lord was
the preincarnate Christ.
