LONELINESS
Loneliness is not a pleasant emotion; yet there
are millions who experience loneliness. Loneliness comes from a person alienating or withdrawing oneself
from God. If you don’t consider this, all remedies will
only give that person temporary and superficial (shallow,
insignificant) relief.
Loneliness can be the very beginning of a new life
of spiritual maturity. The lack of intimacy with the
Lord can be most painful, for God never intended for
mankind to estrange himself (or herself) from his Creator.
Quite the contrary, God made man so that He could have
fellowship with him. Loneliness is a great trouble and affliction to
people of all ages.
Psalm
102:1-7 A Prayer of the afflicted, when
he is overwhelmed, and poureth out his complaint before
the Lord. Hear my prayer, O Lord, and let my cry come
unto thee. [2] Hide not thy face from me in the day
when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in
the day when I call answer me speedily. [3] For my days
are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned as
an hearth. [4] My heart is smitten, and withered like
grass; so that I forget to eat my bread. [5] By reason
of the voice of my groaning my bones cleave to my skin.
[6] I am like a pelican of the wilderness: I am like
an owl of the desert. [7] I watch, and am as a sparrow
alone upon the house top. [KJV]
This is a
prayer of one overwhelmed with trouble, pouring out
problems before the Lord, a prayer of someone afflicted
with loneliness.
It is our duty and privilege to pray to the Lord, and
it is a tremendous comfort to an afflicted spirit to
unburden itself, simply by humbly stating your griefs.
Loneliness is probably the most desolate word in the English language. Loneliness causes a sense of complete
emptiness and uselessness. It is not a sin to be lonely,
for even our Lord was lonely; but it is a sin to turn
away from God. People were created to have fellowship
with God and other people. But is we have a good relationship
with God, it seems that He makes arrangements for us
to find comfort and friendship in people.
Solitude
is NOT loneliness. Being ‘alone’ is not the same as
loneliness. Jesus was often alone (by
choice), especially when He prayed. Some people like to be alone, away from the hussle-bussle
of the world. Loneliness is the absence of a personal, close relationship
with God and can be a negative experience. Solitude is being
by oneself, many times by preference, and can have a
positive and renewing effect on a person. Solitude grants us the much needed opportunity
of gaining (or regaining) God’s viewpoint on life.
All desolate,
lonely souls should take comfort in the fact that God
is with His lonely children today, just as He was with
His lonely Son when Jesus walked the Earth. To
be lonely without God is a foretaste of Hell; but to
be alone with God is a foretaste of Heaven!
We
can claim one of three attitudes, in relation to what
God promises:
-
(1)
We can ‘come up short’ by not counting their value. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come
short of the glory of God; [KJV]
-
(2)
We can ‘stagger’ around like a drunk man because
of our unbelief. Romans
4:20 He staggered not at the promise of God
through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving
glory to God; [KJV] James 1:7 For
let not that man think that he shall receive any
thing of the Lord. [KJV]
-
(3)
We can have ‘full assurance’ because we know God
can be trusted and will keep His Promises. Romans 4:21 And being fully persuaded
that, what he had promised, he was able also to
perform. [KJV]
If there is ANY gap between
God’s Promises to us and their fulfillment, it is OUR
fault, simply because we have NOT claimed them! Trust God today, He
is so good!
John 14:1 Let
not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe
also in me. [KJV] Our heart need not be troubled by loneliness or anything else. Jesus is
there for us, day or night!
John 14:18 I
will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. [KJV] When Jesus left the Earth to return
to Heaven, He made arrangements for us to have continual
comfort, that being through His Holy Spirit, who lives
within each and every child of God.
Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so
be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man
have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. [KJV] True children of God are not controlled by their
sinful nature. They are controlled by the Spirit if
you have the Spirit of God living in them. Anyone who
does NOT have the Spirit of Christ living in them are
not Christians at all. The Holy
Spirit helps us live the life we should live.
John 14:27 Peace
I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the
world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be
troubled, neither let it be afraid. [KJV]
The temporary peace that the world offers CANNOT compare
to the constant inward peace and joy only Jesus can
give us.
Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall
tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine,
or nakedness, or peril, or sword? [36] As it is written,
For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are
accounted as sheep for the slaughter. [37] Nay, in all
these things we are more than conquerors through him
that loved us. [38] For I am persuaded, that neither
death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor
powers, nor things present, nor things to come, [39]
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall
be able to separate us from the love of God, which is
in Christ Jesus our Lord. [KJV] These
are tremendous verses! They are awesome and comforting!
NOTHING in this universe can ever separate us from the love
of God which is available to us only through Christ
Jesus our Lord!
1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
[KJV] Take ALL your troubles
to the Lord, and leave them there!
Colossians 2:10 And ye are complete in him, which is the
head of all principality and power: [KJV] Only Jesus can make us COMPLETE, and give us
peace within!
Isaiah 54:10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed;
but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither
shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the
Lord that hath mercy on thee. [KJV] One
day the mountains and hills as we know them will definitely
be gone; but God's love for His people is here to stay
for eternity!
Isaiah 58:9 Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall
answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am.
If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the
putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
[KJV] Any one of God’s
children can call upon Him, any time, any place, and
He will answer!
2 Corinthians
6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and
ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
[KJV] God is our spiritual
Father who will NEVER desert us!
Psalm 40:17 But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon
me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying,
O my God. [KJV] God
is our awesome and majestic Creator, yet He loves the
least of us!
Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help
in trouble. [KJV] He’s
ALWAYS there for us, day or night!
Deuteronomy
31:6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear
not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he
it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee,
nor forsake thee. [KJV]
The
Lord is ALWAYS with us, no matter what, IF we are His
child!
