How Many Paths are there to Eternity?

Jesus is crystal clear on the answer to this question! He very plainly states we do have a choice, and our choice is limited to only TWO possible paths. In this life on Earth, we must walk on one or the other. We CANNOT straddle the fence! A correct decision must be made if you want to spend eternity in Heaven. Heb. 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (KJV) . . . I am a firm believer that we are given this life on Earth, to decide WHERE we shall spend eternity! My friend, the damnable heresy of purgatory is NOT true! IF you choose the wrong path as you live your life here on Earth, you shall go to Hell.
Proverbs 4:10-14  Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many. 11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths. 12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. 13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life. 14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. (KJV) . . . God is SO good! If people would just believe Him, and open the Bible, they can see that God truly does teach us in the way of wisdom and tells us over and over again what is the right path. The vast majority of people will NOT hold fast of instruction. They simply let her go, they do NOT keep wisdom! God warns over and over: Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (KJV)

Let us first consider the Broad Way.

The most frequently traveled path in the world has a wide gate. This broad way offers SO many freedoms to those who walk it. Freedom to believe whatever you want to believe. On this crowded road, ALL religions have their own way to Heaven. All philosophies and opinions are welcomed and willingly accepted. This is a VERY crowded road! People choose this way because it offers them the freedom to do what they want to do and go wherever they want to go. BUT . . . this broad way is ungodly, and those who travel on it do NOT want anyone to tell them what to do or how to do it.
This broad way is where Satan walks, and where he deceitfully convinces people that a life of discipline, is NOT the way to freedom, happiness, joy and peace. What people on this expressway to Hell do NOT see, is the cost, the penalties which are the end result from an ungodly lifestyle.
This broad way is also a path of darkness (Pro.2:13). Pro. 4:19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble. (KJV)
John 3:19-20 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. (KJV)
Many choose this because the darkness makes them comfortable with their sin. Have you ever wondered why it is so dark on barrooms and beer joints? John 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. (KJV)
John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (KJV)
People reject Jesus, who is the Light of the world, in order to avoid conviction and guilt.

This broad way brings disappointment. Those who travel on this path try to convince themselves that doing things their way will make them happy and content, but it finally result in bondage to sin and disappointment. Sin NEVER deliver the rewards it promises. The broad path ends in destruction. Those who choose this road keep hoping their lives will improve, but they will in the end face eternal destruction. In trying to save their lives, they will lose their souls for all eternity. Mark 8:34-37 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. 36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? 37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?(KJV)

Now, The Narrow Way

Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (KJV)
Jesus wants people to take the narrow path. There is absolutely NO combination of religions here. Only those who believe in Jesus can enter the small gate.
The narrow way requires discipline. All who walk this road practice self-restraint and avoid sinful practices. This narrow way is the way of the few. TRUE Christians are in the minority compared to the world’s population. Even when Jesus ministered on Earth, there was only a small number of people that followed Him.

The narrow way is the path of wisdom. Pro. 4:10-14  Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many. Those who walk the narrow road listen and accept instruction from the Lord, for they know He guides their way.  (Prov. 4:10-14). They are committed to living a holy, righteous life and they experience the peace and joy that come with obedience. It is the path of following Jesus. It is NOT the desirable freeway of the world but the road of faith in Christ. Those who enter the strait (difficult) gate believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died for their sins. They trust Him as their personal Saviour and surrender their lives to Him. To submit to and surrender to Jesus means giving up their old way of life and walking as new creations in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17). His Spirit lives within them guiding their way and empowering them to live a godly lifestyle.

Judgment at the end of BOTH roads!

At the end of both paths is judgment. After physical death, we all will stand before Christ (Heb. 9:27). All those who took the narrow path will come before Him, washed in His precious Blood, holy and righteous because of their faith in Him. But ALL the millions who rejected Christ and walked the broad path will stand before Him with all their sins. There will be NO explanations or excuses of any kind in the Presence of His radiant holiness and glory (Mat.17:2), for His light will reveal the utter and vile darkness of their sin. At the end of the narrow road is the entrance into heaven, but the broad way leads to Hell (Rev.20:15), and eternal separation from God (2 Thes.1:8-9).

The Carnal Christian

Although it is impossible to walk both paths at once, some Christians do try to go back to the lifestyle of the wide road. Every one of us has the ability to sin, because we still have our old man (Eph.4:22) within us and our two natures battle each other (Rom.7:19-25). Our flesh or old nature causes us to seek sinful desires. But God has promised that if we walk by His Spirit, we won’t carry out these desires. Gal. 5:16-17 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. (KJV) . . . The Holy Spirit enables us to overcome temptation. Although we will sin again, we must never let sin become our routine . . . we must NOT practice sin. 1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. (KJV)

The Saved and Unsaved

Choosing the road on which we walk in this life, is the most important decision anyone will ever make! We can trust the Bible to give us correct guidance in choosing the right road, and it can also tell us whether someone is walking on the narrow or broad way. Jesus says people are known by the fruit they produce in their lives (the things they say and do), NOT just by their spoken words that they are a Christian. Matthew 7:20-23 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (KJV) . . . To believe in Christ is more than mere rational assent that He is the Son of God. Believe is a word showing action. Jesus states here that those who are supposedly religious, but whose lifestyle is sinful in God’s eyes, will receive some hard words from the Judge one day. I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity (practice sin, lawlessness). Jesus’ words reveal that they had NOT taken the narrow road of salvation because their faith was NOT authentic since it did not result in a changed life. But, please consider this . . . just because you are now on the wide way headed for eternal destruction, you do NOT have to stay there! IF you truly believe in Christ and are willing to repent of sin and surrender your life to Him, you can enter the strait gate and follow Jesus on the narrow way.

Have you ever considered where your choices will lead you? Do you ever consider what God wants for you? Which path are you traveling today . . . the narrow road or the broad way? The choices you make today determine your tomorrows. Please, please . . . be extra careful in decisions you make. Christ Jesus has given us clear direction to help us find the best way to live and avoid the painful consequences of a wrong choice.
In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus spoke about two paths of life and described the final destination of each. To emphasize His point, He contrasted small and wide gates, narrow and broad ways, good and bad trees and the resulting fruit, sincere and false professions of faith, wise and foolish builders, rock and sand foundations, and secure and unstable houses. In each case, one way led to destruction and the other to life. Please pay attention to Him.

Matthew 7:13-27 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. 15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
