The Christian Life
NO one can live the Christian life in his own strength, but so many people try to do it. They just think that they must DO something on their own. The most important thing in the Christian life is to allow Christ to live His life through you. When you do this, it will change your life!
Our Condition Before Salvation
#1. Our sins separated us from God. 2 Cor. 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, (KJV)
#2. Only prayers of repentance, will the Lord hear. Isaih 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. (KJV)
#3. Before we are saved, we were dead spiritually and under God’s wrath. Ephesians 2:1-3 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. (KJV)
What Happens at Salvation?
#1. The Holy Spirit must first convict us that we need God’s forgiveness. John 16:7-8 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: (KJV)
#2. We confess our sins, meaning we agree with the Lord, that He is right and we are wrong! Psalm 51:4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. (KJV)
#3. We believe that Jesus’ death on the cross paid the sin-debt we owed, thus allowing us to be fully forgiven. Hebrews 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. (KJV) 1 John 2:12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake. (KJV)
#4. We repent, meaning that we turn away from our old sinful lifestyle. 2 Cor. 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (KJV)
#5. When we are saved and forgiven, we are assured of eternal life, and made heirs of God. John 14:2-3 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (KJV) 1 Peter 1:4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, (KJV)
But we still have two problems:
#1. Our world is full of rebellion, disobedience, corruption, and wickedness, and Satan never ceases to lure us away from God with never ending temptations.
#2. We still have our old nature (the flesh) within us, with desires to rebel against God. Even the apostle Paul had to fight this fact. Romans 7:18-19 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. (KJV)
God’s Provides for our Christian Life
John 17:22-23 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: 23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. (KJV)
John 1:12-13 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (KJV)
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (KJV)
Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. (KJV)
Colossians 3:1-5 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. 5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: (KJV)
Philippians 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. (KJV)
Jesus came into our lives to live through us. We died to our old lives and were raised to new life. At the moment we are saved, the Holy Spirit comes to reside within us. When we rely on Him, He helps us think, act, and react as Jesus would in our place. Every morning, we should r-re-commit ourselves to the Lord and ask Him to live through us that day. We will still have hardship and temptation and, but now we know it is NOT necessary for us to face those things alone!
What Must We Do to Allow Christ to Live Through us!
#1. We must admit our failure. We have tried to live the Christian life on our own strength and have failed.
#2. We must confess our insufficiency and weakness. We now know that we cannot attain spiritual victory on our own.
#3. We must acknowledge that Christ is sufficient. Since He is God, he has the ability to meet all your needs. http://www.hisservants.org/is_jesus_god_h_s.htm
#4. We must submit our life to Him. The word submit is one that many people do NOT like, especially feminists. They simply do not like the idea of submitting (giving in to; succumbing, surrendering, yielding, conceding) to anyone! Here, and in Ephesians, we have this word, and it is something that a TRUE child of God MUST do, whether you like it or not. May I make a suggestion: consider that submit means to cooperate voluntarily. Maybe then you won’t hate it so much.
#5. We must confess it to be true. Say it! “Jesus, please live Your life through me. I surrender to Your will and yield myself to You.”
WHO is in charge of your life? Is it YOU? Or is it Christ Jesus? If you are wise, you will DESIRE that Jesus is in control of your life! If you are wise, you will allow the only begotten Son of God to guide and direct you each and every day. You will allow Him to give you guidance, direction and power to make Godly choices.
IF you do this, does that mean you will be exempt from all anxieties, hardships, heartaches and troubles? No. Absolutely NOT! And it certainly does not mean that you will never sin again . . . but you will NOT have to struggle all alone! He will be right there, to walk with you through any and all problems! Thank You Jesus!
