Seeking God's Guidance

1 John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15  And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. (KJV)

One of the most important things we learn in this life on Earth, is how to decide what God really wants us to do in any given situation, in any decision that we have to make.  God is omniscient (knows all), omnipresent (present everywhere), He loves us unconditionally, and He is more than willing to make His will made known to us no matter who you are, where you are, and no matter your situation. He can show us exactly what to do in every situation, yet very few people ever ask Him! Consider the following:

God wants to guide us and show us the right direction.
Psalm 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. (KJV)
Psalm 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. (KJV)
Psalm 73:24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. (KJV)
Prov. 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths
. (KJV)

God’s guidance is very clear.
Acts 9:5-6 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6  And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. (KJV)
Acts 9:10-17 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord. 11  And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, 12  And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. 13  Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: 14  And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name. 15  But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: 16  For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake. 17  And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. (KJV)

God’s Guide for us is the Holy Spirit.
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. (KJV)
Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (KJV)
1 Cor. 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. (KJV)
The Holy Spirit prods our spirit, pricks our conscience, opens our eyes and ears to God's leading and gives us peace. He also produces the fruits of the Spirit to help us become more like Jesus.
Gal. 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (KJV)
God also guides us by His Word, using Scripture to speak to us.

Dangers of other guides
#1. Beware of fleshly desires.  1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. (KJV)
#2. Does the guidance fit God’s plan for your life? Ask Him!
#3. Does what you want, fit God’s time table for you? Ask Him!
BEWARE of the counsel of others, even good friends. Guidance from people who are TRUE Christians, and understand the mind of God, is wise. Beware of impatience, and doubting God. Beware of pressure, external pressure from family and friends, and internal pressure.

What are the steps to Godly decisions?
#1. Cleanse your heart. James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. (KJV)
#2. Ask God what His will is. Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. (KJV)
Luke 11:9-10 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. (KJV)
Isaiah 64:4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him. (KJV)

When you accept Christ Jesus as your Saviour, the Holy Spirit comes into your life and seals you, making you a child of God. Eph. 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, (KJV)
The Holy Spirit will teach you how to live a Godly life . . . IF you do NOT quench Him (1 Thes.5:19).  God’s guidance is there for you, all you need do is ASK and it is yours!
