Living Godly in an Ungodly World
Titus 1:1-16 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; 2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; 3 But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour; 4 To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour. 5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: 6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. 7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; 8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; 9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. 10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: 11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. 12 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. 13 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; 14 Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. 16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. (KJV)
What is a Godly life? It is a life guided by the Holy Spirit. It is a person who has a passion for God, who seeks to have an intimate relationship with Him, who is maturing in their Christian faith. It is making decisions based on Biblical principles, not just what we prefer. It is a person who trusts God for all their needs. Living a Godly life means obeying God and serving Him faithfully.
SO . . . HOW can we possibly live a Godly life in the midst of a wicked and ungodly world? Today’s generation is a reminder of ungodly generation right before the Flood. Gen. 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (KJV) . . . God warned the people over and over again through His servant, Noah, while Noah was building the ark. Since Noah was 500 years old when he begat his sons, and 600 years old when he entered the ark, the time building the ark and warning the people was 100 years or less.
Gen. 5:32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (KJV) . . . Noah was 500 years old here.
Gen. 7:6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth. (KJV) . . . Noah was 600 years old when he went into the completed ark.
SO . . . what am I getting at? Today’s society is drifting further and further, and faster and faster AWAY from the doctrines of the Bible. WHAT do you think will happen? GOD can clearly see that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. WHAT do you think He is going to do about this fact? What did God do about the wickedness in Noah’s time? He brought the Flood and killed ALL the people on the Earth, because they refused to repent of their evil!
Gen. 13:13 But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly. (KJV) . . . What did God do about this situation in Lot’s time? Gen. 19:24-25 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; 25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. (KJV) Gen. 19:28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace. (KJV) . . . When Abraham looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, all he saw was black smoke.
SO. . . WHAT do you think God is going to do about the wickedness that plagues the world today? Millions must think God will do nothing, or they would change their lifestyle! Anyone who continues in their sin (1 Jn.3:9-10), whatever that sin is, shall face the judgment of God! It is my personal belief that the next thing on God’s calendar is the Rapture, that coming for the TRUE children of God.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words. (KJV) . . . Are YOU ready?
Titus 1:1-16 (at the top), applies to the United States and every nation in the world! Millions say they are Christians, yet they live ungodly lives.
Secular (worldly) . . . no place for God in their lives.
Materialism (greed) . . . what drives most people today is money that buys things.
Immoral (corrupt, depraved) . . . today’s society offers all kinds of sex.
Anti-Christian society (nonbelievers, sheptics) . . . remove God from their lives.
Rebellious . . . today’s youth is a good example.
Hopeless way of life . . . they are on their way to Hell.
False doctrine . . . 2 Tim. 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; (KJV) . . . It is here!
We Must Hold Fast to the Word of God
Titus 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. (KJV) . . . Hold fast to the faithful Word of God!
Isaiah 40:8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. (KJV) . . . God's Word has lasted more than 2000 years!
John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (KJV) . . . Hold fast to it, believe it!
