God CANNOT Lie!
What is a quiet time? WHY do we need it?
A quiet time is a very important part of a Christian’s everyday life, for this is when we go to a comfortable and secluded place in our home, a place where we can draw close to God with no distractions. It should be a place where there are NO interruptions from TV, telephone, family member interactions or traffic noises . . . in other words . . . SILENCE! A quiet time is a time set-aside each day for a meeting between a TRUE believer (God’s child) and God, our heavenly Father. It is a time for reading a portion of the Bible (our own choice), and prayer.
Every TRUE believer needs a quiet time with the Lord. If Jesus Himself needed it, how much more do we need it? Jesus often moved away from the others so that He could communicate with His Father on a regular basis.
Mark 1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. (KJV)
Luke 5:16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed. (KJV)
Matthew 26:36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. (KJV)
How long should this quiet time be? The length does not matter, but it should be enough time to meditate on what was read and then pray about it or anything else that comes to mind. Drawing near to God is an extremely rewarding experience, and once you have created a regular habit of quiet time, it is something we should look forward to. Our lives should not be so full that we feel we just do not have time! That is a BIG mistake! We certainly do NOT want God to get too busy for us!
WARNING: some Eastern religions teach meditation, which includes “emptying the mind” by concentrating on repeating a sound or a particular word over and over. BEWARE!!! Doing this opens the door for Satan to enter and to inflict havoc in our minds. Instead, Christians should follow the advice of the apostle Paul: Phil. 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (KJV) . . . When we fill our mind with these beautiful thoughts, it will bring peace to us and please God at the same time. Our quiet time should be a time of transformation through the renewing of our minds (Rom.12:2), NOT by emptying our mind so Satan can jump in!
