Walking in the Spirit of Christ

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (KJV)
Romans 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (KJV)
Romans 8:9-10 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. (KJV)
Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. (KJV)
Galatians 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (KJV)
1 Peter 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. (KJV)

To whom do you turn for daily guidance on how to live or what decision to make in your life?
The Bible tells us the ONLY Guide worth trusting is the Holy Spirit. He is the only One who knows our past completely, from the moment we were conceived to the present, and who also knows our future, from this day on through eternity (John 14:16, below). He alone knows God’s plan, purpose and will for us today, and for each and every day for the rest of our lives. He also knows what is good for us, what is right for us and what is best for us.
Jesus repeatedly referred to the Spirit as the Spirit of truth. Do you not think that we should take His advice?
John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17  Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (KJV) http://www.godcannotlie.org/john_commentary_ch14.html
John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: (KJV)
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. (KJV) http://www.godcannotlie.org/john_commentary_ch16.html
2 John 1:2 For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever. (KJV)

Jesus said that the Holy Spirit will guide you into all the truth. The Spirit of Truth is like a compass deep within a TRUE believer (Rom.8:9, above), always pointing us to what Jesus would be, say or do in any given time.
God really does want to make His will known to you. He wants you to know what to do and when to do it. So, He gives us the Holy Spirit to be your daily Guide! After the Lord poured out the Holy Spirit on the disciples, they found themselves led in profound ways by the Spirit. The verses below give just a few examples of how the Holy Spirit dealt with His people in ways that provided very personal and specific guidance. What He did for them then, He wants to do for us today.
Acts 8:29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. (KJV)
Acts 10:19-20 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. 20  Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them. (KJV)
Acts 11:12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man's house: (KJV)
Acts 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. (KJV)
Acts 13:4 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus. (KJV)
Acts 16:6-7 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, 7  After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. (KJV)

The leaders of the early church relied on the Holy Spirit to give them this kind of specific, personal guidance, and we are wise to do likewise. The following Scriptures refer to our being led by the Spirit which should be the standard for the Christian life.
Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (KJV)
Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. (KJV)
Galatians 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. (KJV)

Does God place any conditions upon the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our lives? YES! He does!  Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (KJV)

  1. We must STAY yielded to the Spirit. We must say YES to the Spirit when He prompts us to take a certain action or say a certain word. We must let our hearts and minds surrender to the Spirit’s guidance, by actually obeying His prompting and following through by doing or saying what He has called us to do or say. The Spirit so often speaks to us in the stillness of our hearts with a word of conviction or assurance. When the Holy Spirit is trying  to guide us away from something evil or harmful, quite often we may feel a heaviness, a feeling of trouble, a forewarning of something wrong, or an uneasy feeling deep down. When the Holy Spirit is directing us toward helpful things, we are more likely to feel a deep inner peace, an eagerness to see what God will do, and a feeling of comfort and joy. How can you know if you are yielded to the Holy Spirit? You are yielded to Him when you are open to what it is he has in mind for you, that you are willing to accept His will in your life. You are yielded when you can say: I’m ready to do as You tell me.  http://www.hisservants.org/faith_what_is_it.html      http://www.hisservantsministry.org/mar.2015.htm
  2. We must believe and obey His guidance. We are much more likely to be willing to hear what the Holy Spirit has to say IF we are really listening for Him to speak to us. We are much more likely to see and accept the Holy Spirit’s direction IF we are looking for Him in faith! Again, I bring you: Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (KJV) . . . This tells us that God is a rewarder of those who diligently (persistently) seek Him. We are to be sincere in seeking His guidance, sincere in asking for it, sincere in watching for it, and sincere in anticipating it and receiving it.

The Holy Spirit has come to reveal the Truth to us. He has come in His all-knowing ability to impart to us what we need to know in order for us to live obedient and faithful lives. We must faithfully trust Him to guide us, now and forever more! Dear one, God CANNOT lie (Tit.1:2).
