Love of Man to God
Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (KJV)
Mark 12:29-30 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: 30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. (KJV)
Luke 11:42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. (KJV)
John 5:42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. (KJV) . . . Being the omniscient God, Jesus knew not only their persons, but their hearts, the thoughts of their hearts; what was in them, and what was lacking in them, and especially that ye have not the love of God in you . . . the carnal mind is hostile to God, so there is no love in any man's heart naturally. All people, by nature, are haters of God, and enemies in their minds to Him. This can be changed only when His grace, which is a fruit of the Spirit (Gal.5:22-23), is implanted in them when they are regenerated. Before any person has the Holy Spirit, abiding within them (Rom.8:9), people are natural enemies of God.
Love to God, is one of the weightier matters of the law, which the Jews passed over . . . without which, all the actions of men mean nothing! They had no love for god or they would not have sought to kill Jesus, for His supposed violation of the Sabbath, and making Himself equal with God. If they had loved the Father; they would have loved Him that was begotten of Him, and not wanted to kill Him. Have not the love of God: (Jn.5:44; 8:47,55; 15:23-24; Rom.8:7; 1 Jn.2:15; 3:17; 4:20).
