Some Reasons God Makes Us Wait

*****1. Waiting Reveals Our True Motives.
Waiting can bring out the best and/or the worst in people. So #1 . . . what is the best in us? It would be faith and trust in God doing what we know is best for us and the end result in glorifying Him, and also willing patience while we wait. It means having good motives and a keen interest in a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus and His Father. And #2 . . . what is the worst in us? This would be a ‘me-me’ attitude, wanting temporary worldly gains or success with NO desire of a close relationship or commitment with God.

*****2. Waiting Increases Patience in Our Lives.
IF we have patience in waiting for small things, it can help us to having patience in the bigger things later on. IF we cannot wait patiently for God to do a small, minor thing, HOW will we ever wait for something bigger and more important? I think that our biggest problem is that our viewpoint is most often wrong. We are more likely to think that the bigger things in life are money and possessions, while God thinks the bigger and more important things are influencing and changing people’s hearts and minds. Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (KJV)

*****3. Waiting Changes Our Character.
Waiting can rub off the dirty, rough edges of our lives. Most of us know the story of Moses delivering the Israelites from the Egyptians. It is a incredible story of God doing great miracles.
But . . . how many sermons are preached in the pulpits about Moses having to wait in the desert 40 years before God came to him (Ex.3). God used this time of waiting to transform his character. We know this because when he was a young man he was brash and impatient. In his impetuousness he killed a man and hid the body (Ex.2:11-15). When his sin was made public, he ran for his life and was exiled to the desert. When Moses was given a second chance he chose to do it God's way and in God's time.

*****4. Waiting Builds a Close Communion and Dependency Upon God.
If we read about the great men and women of the Bible, we see that they all had one thing in common . . . they all were people who earned their success in life by patiently and willingly waiting on God, and were had a close relationship with Him, and depended on God by faith. None of them were close to God for a get rich quick plan. For many of them, it was a matter of life and death. For them, waiting on God during the difficult times is what established their relationship with God. Some of the closest relationships we have in our lives are because a friend stood in the trenches with us during the heat of some battle. Maybe this is what the Scripture means when it says we have a friend that sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. (KJV)

The reason we get to read the wonderful stories of these great men and women is because they went through the difficulties of life with God by their side! The end result is that they enjoyed the process of waiting WITH God and had FAITH in the Promise of God.
It seems to me that God is just as interested in our journey as He is the destination. If this were not true, all the Biblical accounts would include only the good parts . . . and not the bad parts of the times of waiting. We may not always understand why we have to wait, but the good news is that God never asks us to wait without Him being right there with us! Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. (KJV) Psalm 138:8 The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands. (KJV)
